Under Cabinet TV Reviews
If you’re looking for the best deal on an Under Cabinet TV then you have come to the right site. I did a lot of research online into these when I was buying one for our kitchen.
Below I’ve provided all the details you need to know about an under counter TV so that you can choose the right one for your needs.
If you’re in a hurry and want to know where the best place to buy is, then you’ll find Amazon has the lowest prices by far. In fact it’s not easy to find these TV’s in local stores, because they tend not to stock them, so shopping online is usually the only way.
Under Cabinet TV Reviews
If you’re like me, the main reason you’re looking for an under cabinet TV is to save counter space in the kitchen. You can also use them in the garage or play rooms for kids or whatever you choose. The great news is that most models are very easy to install and take about 5-10 mins to mount.
These TV’s are perfect for watching the news while in the kitchen or making sure you don’t miss out on your favorite shows. The quailty of the screens has come along way over the reason years, and the ones at Amazon are all very decent.
You do have to keep in mind that the quality is not going to be as good as what you would get for a stand alone, expensive brand name LCD, but then again you have to pay 10 times more for these in most cases, and we only spend that money for the living room TV. With that said under cabinet TV’s do the job required very well.
Screen Size
Up until recent years you could only get a large bulky under cabinet TV, but thankfully this has now changed with most being thin LCD, which means they tuck nicely away and don’t take up much space. As for the width of the screen itself you can get from 7-15 inches (check out the Coby and Venturer range at Amazon) .
Digital & Standard TV Broadcast
One thing that concerned me about buying a under cabinet TV, was if it would work with digital, as I’m not exactly that technically inclined. Anyway although this used to be an issue apparently, these days most of them are fully equipped with dual atsc/ntsc tuner for digital and standard TV reception.
Swivel Movement
One thing that you should check with any under counter TV, is that the TV will Swivel, so that you can adjust the angle easily to see the screen where ever you are in the room. Some lower quality ones I came across didn’t swizel and with LCD screens this can make it slightly harder to view the screen when on angles.
Most are able to swivel to 250-270 degrees, which is more than you’ll ever need.
DVD Player & AM/FM Receiver
Most of the better brands such as found at Amazon, including Coby, Audiovox and Venturer and some others, come with built in DVD players and even digital AM/FM radios. The radio function is actually quite handy, especially if you’re using the TV in the kithchen, as it means you don’t have to have a seperate radio in there taking up counter space.
Many of these leading brands also have, along with DVD players, the added functionality of DVD and CD rewriting and audio/video input jack for video games, vcr’s, or other AV sources. This is handy if you want to set up the kids with their videos games in another room while you watch a DVD in the lounge room, believe me!
Extra Features
Although not a major benefit, I do like the fact that most under cabinet TV’s have controls and screens that are resistant to getting splattered by food and liquids. I assume this is because they get used in the kitchen by most people, or the garage where this is most likely an issue.
The brands that I found to be the best from the extensive research I did are Coby, Venturer and Audiovox under cabinet tv sets. These ones all seems to have the key features I discussed above and are at affordable prices.
Customer Reviews
I read quite a few customer reviews about these kind of TV’s and below are some of the more recent ones:
“I’m glad we purchased this unit. Even my 14-year old son, who loves electronic gadgets, thinks it’s pretty cool…”
“I really can find no faults…”
“it’s to easy to watch a program,listen your favorite music,or simple watch a picture…”
“The screen definition is wonderful. It plays MP3.The audio quality is decent..”
Here’s a video of the Audiovox 9 inch so you can see what it looks like in action:
Negatives
I do have a few negative things that I need to discuss now. One issue is that if you’re planning to use cable or a satellite dish, you really do have to make sure you have space for the converter box that your service uses. This is not that big an issue, but just keep this in mind. Also you need roughly 15 inches clearance for cables.
I can’t say this next issue is the same for all models, but sometimes they take a while to change modes, such as between DVD and radio, it’s only a few seconds, but when you’re in a rush it is a minor pain. Also at the end of the day you’re not going to get as high quality experience as a $1000 Samsung LCD (stand alone TV) but that is to expected for what you are paying, however the quality of most models is still high quality.
In my opinion an under counter TV is the best option for price by far. You can mount more expensive TV’s on brackets in the kitchen, but most people don’t need that for an additional under counter TV for the kitchen.
Warranty
I am a careful person when I shop online for things, so I always make I purchase from a well known company. That’s why I shop at Amazon, and they also have the lowest prices on under cabinet T.V.’s too, such as Audiovox and Venturer. They have ranging warranties but you can usually get 3 years if you pay an extra $27, which to me is well worth it for any electronics.
Best Deals
As I’ve mentioned the best deals are at Amazon. Not sure how they are able to stock under cabinet TV’s so low priced but I assume its because they’re such a large online company these days. Here’s the link to view the Amazon range: Under Cabinet TV Best Deals
